Throughout the centuries, scholars and laymen alike have asked the same questions over and over when examining Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” “What are gallowglasses?”, “Who was the third murderer?”, “When witches dance in the moonlight, do they wear heels?” “Shakespeare for the Modern Man - Lesson 1: Macbeth” answers these questions and more. By simultaneously presenting both a traditional staging of the play and a modern interpretation, “Lesson 1: Macbeth” allows the audience to hear the text in Shakespeare’s terms, and understand it on their own. The play also intentionally strips away much of the Bard’s mystique, finding humor in the darkest corners of Castle Dunsinane. If more young people saw this version of the play, thus understanding the true cost of ambition, I daresay there would be a lot less regicide in the world today.
Two productions, two casts, one stage. “Lesson 1: Macbeth”
Recommended for ages 13 and up
